As a Vancouver-based and student run organization, The Antigone Foundation wanted to do something special to leverage the historic 2010 year to create a social legacy for Canadian women and girls and to honour Canadian and U.S. female athletes competing in our city. For the 2010 Dreams for Women Calendar, The Antigone Foundation asked these female athletes to contribute by creating a postcard with their Dreams for Women on it:

Rachel Armstrong, Can Volleyball, Julia Clukey, U.S. Luge, Virginia Johnston, First Nations Snowboard Erin Hamlin, U.S. Luge Kristen Manley-Casimir, Can. Volleyball Cathy Priestner-Allinger, Can. Speed Skating Sara Renner, Can. Cross Country Skiing Michelle Roark, U.S. Freestyle Skiing Angela Ruggiero, U.S. Hockey Robbi Weldon, Can. Para-Nordic Skiing Ashley Wagner, U.S. Figure Skating Katie Willis, Can. Ski Jumpers

The Calendars make great Christmas gifts!

The Antigone Foundation

The Antigone Foundation is an organization that seeks to encourage young women aged 10-35 to become involved in leadership, politics and activism. The money raised from this calendar will be used to create a Dreams for Women scholarship for young women and to launch a national whistlestop leadership tour where we will tour the country and stop in at least 5 cities to provide leadership training to young women.

Dreams for Women

Featured in the International Museum of Women, The Dreams for Women postcard art project has attracted worldwide attnetion and interest, garnering media attention and submissions from as far away as Japan, Germany, Brazil, France and Los Angelos. The Dreams for Women art project asks women and men of all ages to tell us what their dreams are for women by painting, drawing, writing, sketching, or decoupaging them onto a postcard.

Experiences wants you! It’s a mentorship program to get girls and young women involved. We want you to learn and think about the impact of politics on your life, and how you might become involved in shaping your Canada!

We figure just because you’ve never before imagined what a great mayor, member of parliament or health minister you could be, doesn’t mean we can’t give you the opportunity to try the idea on for size!

Experiences will take current and former politicians and pair them up with Mentees – that’s you! Your mentor might speak to your class or let you job shadow for a typical day in the office.  And you have the option of hanging out one-on-one or with a group of friends.

Check out our website at www.equalvoice.ca/experiences for info on how to sign up and start your mentorship NOW!
